Love Says Love Is Not Love

Love Says Love Is Not Love
SAINT JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH

The Episcopal bishop in Albany has come out as the only one fighting a church policy adopted in July that allows for same-sex marriage in every diocese. Individual priests are not required to perform them, but if one refuses then another has to be found who will.

Bishop William Love — yup, that’s his name — said none may be performed in his diocese. Arguing that the Episcopal Church has been “hijacked” by the “gay rights agenda,” he said (wait for it…), “Satan is having a heyday bringing division into the church on these issues.” (I’m guessing he meant “field day.” Satan’s heyday was in the Middle Ages.)

Some parishioners at St. Andrew’s parish in Albany burned Love’s eight-page directive outside their church in protest of his bigotry.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, who is the primate of the church in America — and made a star turn at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan, the duchess of Sussex — has to decide on what disciplinary action to take against Love. Er… on behalf of love.

So far, Curry has said only, “I have been, and will continue to be, in conversation with Bishop Love about this matter. Along with other leaders in the Episcopal Church, I am assessing the implications of the statement and will make determinations about appropriate actions soon.”
